Hello,
I'm currently attending to International School in Yokohama (^^) I have been visiting to your homepage for a couple of months, to see how a student life is at Aston University. I really enjoy reading your diary!

Aston University is one of the University that I have applied to, and your homepage helps me a lot to know about a life at school and Birmingham in general. Thank you〜
If I get into Aston University this year, it seems like you're graduating so I won't be able to see you in person. Good luck with your final year!!

Hi Alice, thanks for your message!

Good to hear that you applied to Aston! Please feel free to ask me any question about Aston or life in Birmingham/UK in general.

Yes, I am graduating this summer, so looks like we won't see each other on campus, but I can still give you some advise if you need any. Have you applied through UCAS? Which other universities have you applied to? Are you not doing your foundation year?

Anyway, I wish you all the best with your application and enjoy the rest of your time in high school!

ohhh thank you for the reply (^^)
yes, I did not apply to the foundation course since I'm taking IB(International Baccalaureate) courses at school. Other than Aston, I also applied to Exeter, Bristol...etc through UCAS. lol
From most of the university I was able to recieve conditional offers, and right now I'm working on my IB courses in order to get the required points.

From looking at your diary, the classes you're taking at Aston seems pretty tough and hard....I'm looking forward to get into the university, but at the same time I'm worrying whether if I can survive for 3 years. ahaha
ohh, and also I was wondering about the enviroment of Birmingham since I never had a chance to visit there. Is it safe to live in Birmingham??

Hi Alice,

I wouldn't say that the stuff we're learning at Aston is hard, but the volume of work is quite high, especially in the final year... but it's not going to be that busy from the start, so you have nothing to worry. Aston does have a placement year (like an internship), which was also a good experience for me.

By the way, which degree are you intending to study?

Birmingham is a multicultural city; there's a lots people from various ethnic backgrouds. I think it's a safe place to live, I never had any life threatning experiences whilst I was here :) But I must admit that there were some terrorist threats in the outskirts of Birmingham... But apart from that, it's okay!

wooo, it's good to hear that the first year is not so busy (^^)
I saw a list of some famous companies which Aston student goes for thier placement year, and I was very impressed!!

I'm intending to study Computer Science, but at the same time I'm also interested in business...I hope I can get some good influences from the student in business department. ohh, and also I heard that students can take Language class if they want for free. I am thinking that it will be nice to take a french class if I get into Aston〜!

Hi Alice, nice to hear from you again,

yes, quite a few people go work for big companies for their placement year and the experience becomes very useful when you search for graduate jobs.

There are currently about 10 Japanese students in Aston and so if you do choose Aston, I can introduce them to you somehow.

anyway, all the best!

Mike,

That's what I did, I was driving 100miles per hour. The examiner was impressed indeed with my drifting skills.

Anyway, I am happy and thanks for congratulating me.

I was just googling and found this hilarious website, it's totally crap!

http://matkinbird.port5.com/page002.html

wait a minute, it's mine!

I created this website when I first came to UK in 2003. As you can see, it hasn't been updated since Christmas 2003 (laugh).

Have a look, there are some interesting photos, including the grumpy looking author.

Hi Rob, very nice to hear from you.

As you might have noticed, this guest book is bombarded with spam mails... I am too lazy to delete them.

Oh come on, I'm sure you know 99% of the girls in Basingstoke.

Yeah, Uni life is okay, I thought it would be easier, but seems like it's going to be quite busy...

I hope everything well with you. See you around, have a nice time is Prague.
